1. Who We Are

ShapeArena is a free online shape-drawing game operated by Softr Solutions. This privacy policy explains what data we collect when you use ShapeArena, how we use and store that data, and what rights you have regarding your personal information.

We are committed to handling your data responsibly. ShapeArena is designed to work with minimal personal information — you do not need to create an account, provide an email address, or share any identifying details to play the game.

2. Data We Collect

We collect only what is needed to run the game and maintain fair leaderboards. Here is a complete list of the data we process:

Nickname — a name you choose when you first play. This is displayed publicly on leaderboards. It does not need to be your real name.
Avatar selection — which of the predefined avatar icons you selected. No image uploads are involved.
User ID — a randomly generated UUID (universally unique identifier) created when you first visit ShapeArena. This ID is stored in your browser's localStorage and is used to associate your drawings and scores with your nickname. It is not linked to your real identity.
Drawing data — the point coordinates and timing of your shape drawings, submitted when you tap “Submit.” This data is used to calculate your accuracy score on the server.
Scores and rankings — your computed scores, leaderboard positions, XP totals, level, and streak data.
Technical data — browser type, device type, and screen dimensions. This information is used to render the drawing canvas correctly and normalize scores across different screen sizes. We do not use this data for tracking or advertising.

We do not collect email addresses, real names, phone numbers, physical addresses, payment information, or location data. ShapeArena does not require any form of account registration.

3. How We Use Your Data

The data we collect is used exclusively to operate the game and provide its core features:

Leaderboards — your nickname, avatar, and scores are displayed on public daily, weekly, and monthly leaderboards so you can compete with other players.
Scoring — your drawing data is processed server-side to calculate accuracy, speed, and smoothness scores. The raw drawing data is not displayed publicly.
Progression — your XP, level, and streak data are tracked so you can see your improvement over time.
Abuse prevention — we use rate limiting and basic request analysis to prevent automated submissions and ensure fair competition. This does not involve profiling or behavioral tracking.
Application improvement — aggregate, anonymized usage patterns (such as which shapes are most popular) help us improve the game. We do not perform individual user tracking for this purpose.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your user ID is stored locally in your browser's localStorage. If you clear your browser data, this ID is lost and you will appear as a new player.

Server-side data (drawings, scores, leaderboard entries) is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on DigitalOcean infrastructure in a secure data center. Access to the database is restricted to application processes and authorized administrators.

All communication between your browser and our servers occurs over HTTPS, which encrypts data in transit.

5. Third-Party Services

ShapeArena uses the following third-party services:

Google AdSense — when enabled, Google AdSense may display advertisements on certain pages. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your browsing activity. DigitalOcean — our hosting provider. DigitalOcean processes server requests as part of hosting our application. See DigitalOcean's Privacy Policy.

We do not use analytics services, social media trackers, or any other third-party tracking tools beyond those listed above.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

In summary, we use essential storage for your user identity and cookie consent preference. We do not use cookies for analytics or tracking. Third-party cookies may be set by Google AdSense when advertising is enabled.

7. Data Retention

Drawing attempts, scores, and leaderboard entries are retained for as long as the leaderboard system is active. This allows historical rankings and progression tracking to function correctly.

If you request deletion of your data, we will remove your nickname, scores, drawings, and associated records from our database. Because your identity is based on a browser-stored UUID rather than an email or account, deletion requests should include the nickname you used so we can locate the correct records.

8. Your Rights

Regardless of where you are located, you can:

Request a copy of the data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data
Stop using the service at any time (simply close the page — no account to cancel)

If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to:

Object to processing of your data
Request restriction of processing
Data portability (receive your data in a structured format)
Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

9. Children's Privacy

ShapeArena does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). The game does not require any personal information to play — only a self-chosen nickname. If you believe a child has provided personal information through ShapeArena, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
