About ShapeArena
A free, competitive shape-drawing game that turns simple geometry into a surprisingly addictive challenge.
What Is ShapeArena?
ShapeArena is an online game built around one deceptively simple idea: draw a shape as perfectly as you can. Players are presented with a target shape—a circle, square, triangle, pentagon, hexagon, star, or diamond—and challenged to reproduce it freehand on a digital canvas. Every drawing is analysed in real time by our scoring engine, which evaluates accuracy, speed, and line smoothness to produce a final score out of 100.
Scores are posted to public leaderboards, so you can see exactly where you stand against other players around the world. Whether you are chasing a personal best or trying to claim the top spot on this week's rankings, there is always a reason to try one more round.
Why We Built It
Geometry is one of the oldest branches of mathematics, yet most people stop engaging with it once they leave the classroom. We wanted to change that. ShapeArena was created to make geometric drawing feel like a game rather than homework—something you pick up for a quick round during a break and end up playing for an hour.
Our mission is straightforward: make geometry fun through competitive drawing. No textbooks, no equations—just your finger or mouse, a canvas, and the pursuit of the perfect shape.
How Scoring Works
When you finish a drawing, it is sent to our server where an AI-powered scoring pipeline analyses it against the ideal version of the target shape. The algorithm considers three main factors:
- Accuracy — How closely your drawn outline matches the mathematical form of the target shape.
- Speed — How quickly you completed the drawing. Faster times earn a bonus, but only if accuracy remains high.
- Smoothness — How steady and fluid your line is. Jagged or wobbly strokes reduce your score.
The result is a single score from 0 to 100 that captures the overall quality of your attempt. For a deeper breakdown of each factor, visit the Scoring page.
Who Is ShapeArena For?
ShapeArena is designed for everyone. There is no sign-up form, no paywall, and no prior knowledge required. That said, we see a few groups that get the most out of it:
- Casual players looking for a quick, satisfying challenge during a coffee break or commute.
- Students and educators who want a playful way to engage with geometric concepts and develop hand-eye coordination.
- Geometry enthusiasts who appreciate the precision of a well-drawn shape and enjoy optimising their technique.
- Competitive spirits who thrive on leaderboards and love the thrill of climbing the rankings.
