Getting Started
What is ShapeArena?
ShapeArena is a free competitive shape-drawing game. You draw geometric shapes on a canvas, and our AI scores your drawing based on accuracy, speed, and smoothness. Compete against other players on daily, weekly, and monthly leaderboards to see who can draw the most precise shapes.
How do I start playing?
Just visit the homepage and pick a shape to draw. You will be asked to choose a nickname before your first submission — no email, password, or account creation required. Once you have a nickname, tap or click to start drawing and release to finish. Your drawing is scored instantly.
Is ShapeArena free to play?
Yes, ShapeArena is completely free. There are no in-app purchases, premium tiers, or paywalls. Every feature — including leaderboards, daily challenges, and XP progression — is available to all players at no cost.
Do I need to create an account?
No. ShapeArena uses a lightweight identity system stored in your browser. When you choose a nickname, a unique identifier is saved to your browser's localStorage. There is no email or password involved. Just pick a name and start drawing.
Gameplay & Scoring
How is my drawing scored?
Each drawing is sent to our server where it is evaluated by an AI scoring system. Three main factors are considered: accuracy (how closely your shape matches the ideal geometric form), speed (how quickly you completed the drawing), and smoothness (how steady and fluid your line is). These factors are combined into a final score.
Can I use multiple strokes to draw a shape?
Yes. You can lift your finger or mouse and continue drawing additional strokes. All strokes are combined when you hit the Submit button. You can also use the Undo button to remove the last stroke if you make a mistake.
Why did my score seem different from what I expected?
Scores are calculated server-side using multiple factors including geometric accuracy, line smoothness, and drawing speed. Small imperfections that are hard to notice visually — such as slight asymmetry, wobbly lines, or uneven proportions — can affect your score. Keep practicing and your scores will improve.
Shapes
Which shapes are available?
There are seven shapes you can draw: circle, square, triangle, pentagon, hexagon, star, and diamond. Each shape presents a different challenge in terms of curves, angles, and symmetry.
Which shape is the hardest to draw?
It varies by player, but most people find the star and pentagon to be the most difficult. The star requires precise angles and consistent arm lengths, while the pentagon demands five nearly equal sides and angles. The circle is deceptively tricky as well, since any wobble is immediately visible.
Leaderboards
How do the leaderboards work?
ShapeArena has three leaderboard periods: daily, weekly, and monthly. Your best score for each shape within the current period counts toward the rankings. The daily leaderboard resets every day at midnight UTC, the weekly leaderboard runs from Monday to Sunday (calendar week), and the monthly leaderboard resets on the first of each month.
When do leaderboards reset?
Daily leaderboards reset at midnight UTC every day. Weekly leaderboards follow the calendar week, resetting each Monday at midnight UTC. Monthly leaderboards reset on the first day of every month at midnight UTC. When a leaderboard resets, all players start fresh for the new period.
XP, Levels & Progression
How does XP and leveling work?
You earn XP (experience points) for every drawing you submit. Better scores award more XP. As you accumulate XP, you level up. Your current level and XP progress are displayed on your profile. Levels serve as a measure of your overall dedication and skill over time.
What are daily challenges?
Daily challenges give you a specific shape to draw each day. Completing the daily challenge earns you bonus XP. They are a great way to build a habit, try shapes you might not normally pick, and earn extra XP to level up faster.
What are streaks and how do I maintain one?
A streak counts the number of consecutive days you have played ShapeArena. Draw and submit at least one shape per day to keep your streak alive. If you miss a day, your streak resets to zero. Streaks are a fun way to track your consistency.
Social & Sharing
Can I share my results with friends?
Yes. After completing a drawing you can generate a unique challenge URL to share with friends. When someone opens your link, they can try the same shape and compare their score directly against yours. It is a fun way to set up head-to-head competitions.
Technical & Browser Support
Does ShapeArena work on mobile devices?
Yes. ShapeArena works on both desktop and mobile. On mobile devices you draw with your finger using touch input, and on desktop you use your mouse or trackpad. The canvas adapts to your screen size for the best experience on any device.
Which browsers are supported?
ShapeArena works in all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend keeping your browser updated to the latest version for the best performance and drawing experience.
I lost my progress. Can I get it back?
Because your identity is stored in your browser's localStorage, clearing your browser data, switching browsers, or using a different device will cause you to lose access to your profile. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to recover or transfer your progress. We recommend not clearing site data for shapearena.com if you want to keep your scores and level.
Privacy & Data
What data does ShapeArena collect?
ShapeArena collects minimal data: your chosen nickname, your drawing data (point coordinates and timing), and basic technical information like browser type for rendering purposes. We do not collect email addresses, real names, or location data. For full details, see our privacy policy.
How can I delete my data?
You can clear your local identity by clearing your browser's localStorage for shapearena.com. This removes your nickname and local profile. If you want your scores removed from the leaderboards as well, please contact us and we will handle it.
